Vinie Burrows …began her career as a child actress on radio and made her Broadway theatre debut with Helen Hayes in Wisteria Trees directed by the renowned Joshua Logan.

In almost immediate succession came six more Broadway appearances with William Marshall and Ossie Davis in the revival of Green Pastures;with Claude Rains, in Jezebel’s Husband; with Mary Martin, George Abbott, Helen Hayes in Skin of Our Teeth (played Paris, Washington, and a limited run on Broadway); with Eartha Kitt in Mrs. Patterson; with Will Geer and David Wayne in Eudora Welty’s The Ponder Heart; with Franchot Tone and Dennis Hopper in Mandingo.

As an adult she was frustrated by the quality and quantity of roles for the actor of color, Vinie Burrows has created and produced a repertoire of eight one-woman shows. With over six thousand performances, she has developed a strong following; touring Holland, Germany, Denmark, Romania, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Algeria, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Japan, and — more recently — Russia.

She has been a staunch anti-war and social justice activist, who, over the years, has worked with numerous commissions at the United Nations, and is currently a member of the “Grannies For Peace”.

Some of her honors include:
• Michael Tigar Human Rights Award, University of Texas, Austin
