Bassem Youssef (b. Egypt, 1974) didn’t only change his life when he decided to host the TV show Al-Bernameg. The irreverence with which he took aim at local politicians changed his homeland too from 2011 to 2014. “The present climate in Egypt is not suitable for a political satire program,” he said when he announced its end in June.
