Some local cultural practices (such as wearing a headscarf) have become linked, in the popular mind, to the articles of faith of Islam. Has the world’s general idea of the Islamic faith focused too much on tradition, and not enough on core beliefs?

– the two biggest influences on why Islam is practised so wrong in so many ways today.
-
People believe what they read about Islam in mainstream media like the our 21st century government is aware of what Islam really is about

Misinterpretation number 1:
-
In the Quran, torture and mutilation are sins. Yet women all over the Middle East get abused due to non-traditional dress.
-
But I for one don’t remember anywhere in the Quran telling me it’s okay to hurt another human being because their ankles are out
-
Most of the ill-treatment that women receive in the Muslim world is based on local culture and traditions, without any basis in the faith.
-
Practices such as forced marriage, abuse, and restricted movement contradict Islamic law governing family behaviour and personal freedom.
-
If we look into the first revelation of Islam, it is not biased and gendered. According to the archives, many leaders etc. were women.
-
-
The Quran addresses human beings as ”you”, covering both sexes.

Misinterpretation number 2:

Misinterpretation number 3:
-
-
The entire Qur’an, taken as a complete text, gives a message of hope, faith, and peace to a faith community of one billion people.
-
-
Some scholars do speak out against terrorism in all its forms, and offer explanations of misinterpreted or twisted teachings.
-
Misconception number 4:
-
A friend of mine recently told me that Muslims hate all other religions. Meaning half my family hate me, great.
-
In actual fact, Throughout the Qur’an, Muslims are reminded that they are not the only ones who worship God.
-
Jews and Christians are called “People of the Book,” and have received previous revelations from the One Almighty God that we all worship.
-
-
Was all this hating other religions thing taking its toll on you too? So glad I can be a civil human being like the Quran asked me to now.

This portrayal of Islam and Muslims is perpetuated by many sectors of the mainstream media as well as public educational institutions.
In my opinion, Muslims and non-Muslims alike need to educate themselves before they run around with banners making the rest of us look bad. What do you think?
